Police have rescued a lecturer with the University of Port Harcourt Mrs Awala George from kidnappers.
UNIPORT lecturer rescued after 9 days in captors' den
A lecturer with the University of Port Harcourt Mrs Awala George has been rescued from kidnappers, nine days after her abduction.
Unidentified gunmen had abducted Awala from her residence at Ozuoba on March 3.
The Public Relations Officer of the command, Ahmad Muhammad, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the don was rescued from her captors in a March 11 sting operation, nine days after her abduction.
“Following credible information about criminal hideouts in an uncompleted building along ABC/Rumuola bye pass road in Port Harcourt, police patrol teams immediately stormed the scene and rescued Awala George," Muhammad said.
"Awala was kidnapped at her residence at Ozuoba by four armed men on March 3,” he said.
Muhammad said three suspects were arrested in the operation.
He said the police are making efforts to arrest other members of the kidnap gang.
