A black 19-year-old student and football player at Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas, was shot dead by a white trainee police officer on Friday.

Christian Taylor had allegedly driven an SUV through the showroom glass doors into an auto dealership in Arlington before he was shot four times by a 49-year-old Arlington police officer Brad Miller.

Taylor suffered had gunshot wounds to the neck, chest and abdomen.

His death comes at a time when America's law enforcement system is being criticized by what is many have called race motivated killings of blacks.

As have been in the case of other such killings, like Eric Garner (July 17, 2014 in New York), Michael Brown Jr. (August 9, 2014, Ferguson, Missouri) and Walter Scott (April 4, 2015, North Charleston, South Carolina), Taylor was unarmed.

The killings bring up the argument of racial inequality in America, aptly captured by Washington Post in an August 8 article:

"So far this year [2015], 24 unarmed black men have been shot and killed by police - one every nine days...

"...black men accounted for 40 percent of the 60 unarmed deaths, even though they make up just 6 percent of the U.S. population. The Post's analysis shows that black men were seven times more likely than white men to die by police gunfire while unarmed."

In the Taylor case however, he was reportedly committing a violent crime.

"Christian Taylor became the latest unarmed black man to die at the hands of a white police officer after officials said he was seen on security surveillance tape vandalizing cars at an auto dealership in Arlington," the Daily Mail wrote.

However, it is not certain what led to the actual shooting, since he was unarmed.

Miller's decision to shoot Taylor four times while a second officer only used a Taser was not explained by Arlington police chief, Will Johnson, who revealed that the cop was still on training.

Taylor's 23-year-old brother, Joshua, reportedly told Reuters that the family wants more information about his death.

"Until we get concrete facts, we won't know what happened," Joshua said in a phone interview.

"He was a really good guy. He was family-oriented. He was an A student and had he everything going for him."

Taylor's death almost coincides with the one-year anniversary of the killing of Michael Brown which had sparked violent protests in many US states.

But the officer who killed Brown, Darren Wilson, was not charged.
