Mimiko under fire as OSUSTECH students resume protest against poor facilities

Hundreds of students of the Ondo State University of Science and Technology (OSUSTECH) marched on Wednesday in continuation of their protest against poor facilities at the institution following the expiry of a 2-week ultimatum.

According to several reports, the students who numbered over 700 alleged poor working and learning conditions in the institution.

They locked the main entrance to the institution and stopped pedestrian and vehicular traffic, causing a gridlock along Okitipupa/Igbokoda road.

With staff and students unable to gain access all activities were stalled at the institution.

A student quoted in a Daily Post report, Omotola Benson, said the protest was against exorbitant school fees, N125,000 for indigenous students and N175,000 for non-indigenes, payment of ICT fees without the facilities, neglect of the University by the government and non-payment of the staff salaries.

“Is this not a rape on our fundamental human right?” she asked.

It will be recalled that the students had earlier protested two weeks ago after which they gave Governor Olusegun Mimiko's government a 14-day ultimatum to address the issues raised.

The resumed their protest after the government’s failure to respond appropriately.
