CENTS turns FUNAAB students into entrepreneurs

A programme organised by the Centre for Entrepreneurial Studies (CENTS) and Rotary Clubs of Altadena, California and Sagamu, is helping students of the Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta (FUNAAB) become entrepreneurs before graduation.

During the training session, the Director, CENTS, FUNAAB, According to a Daily Independent report, Prof Femi Onifade, said the aim of the programme is to help the students become self-sufficient before and after graduation through entrepreneurship.

He said skills gathered at the training will help the students see opportunities they can key into, rather than wait for ready-made jobs which are scarce.

"The aim is that, based on the exposure of the students we have here, they will be able to help themselves and help others," Onifade said.

"The University, through CENTS, would be able to continue to train and mentor students in a particular venture, which they would like to go into."

The Director said CENT would also offer advisory support to the students whenever they are ready to establish their business.

"I believe what they have gained during the training has opened their eyes to what they are likely to meet when they have a business venture, how to avoid certain traps and improve their integrity as someone in business."

A female participant and student of FUNAAB's Department of Banking and Finance, Shokunbi Ganiyat, told Daily Independent that the training has equipped her towards the establishment of a jewellery business.

Other participants said they have benefitted greatly.
