Students Tackle Governor Jang Over PLASU VC's Sack
Governor Jang's decision to sack the Vice Chancellor of the Plateau State University for 'inappropriate conduct' has been rejected by students of the institution.
‘Inappropriate conduct’ was cited as the reason for Sheni’s sack.
But the decision has proven to be unpopular as angry students of the institution today (Monday) boycotted examinations, calling Sheni's sack undue interference on the part of the governor.
The placard carrying student, led by the PLASU Students’ Union Government President Matthew Dafoum, locked the school gate and harassed lecturers and students, effectively disrupting scheduled examinations.
Jang had on Friday, 31st of October, in a statement issued through the Director of Press and Public Affairs, announced Sheni's sack and replaced him with the a former Rector of the Plateau State Polytechnic,Stephen Mallo.
“While wishing Professor Mallo fruitful and purposeful leadership, he has been mandated to commence preparation for accreditation of all the programmes of the University,” Mr. Mannok had said in the statement.
The protesting students are also concerned about the non-accreditation of some of their courses, eight years after the institution was established on Monday 7th March, 2005.
PLASU was renamed Solomon Lar University, Bokkos, in 2013, but is still known by its old name.
