NCE graduate nabbed for supplying guns to armed robbers
A Nigerian Certificate in Education (N.C.E.) holder, Raymond Kakaan, has been arrested by the Police in Lagos for gun running.
Kakaan was arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday on five counts bordering on armed robbery and illegal dealing in arms and ammunition.
Charged with him were a 26-year-old gun manufacturer, Ayila Ejir
According to a Punch report, Ejir was nabbed on the 10th of August at his factory in Usambe village, Benue, after police smashed a four-man robbery gang that operated with his weapons.
He said he started making guns in December and had sold five of them to Kakaan
“My boss taught me how to construct guns and I started making them myself since he died in December last year," Ejir said.
“I have sold five guns to Raymond (Kakaan) for N30,000 each."
Police say one of the robbers, 20-year-old Peter Ikumofu, bought the gun used for their operations from Kakaan who was found with two single-barrelled guns.
Kakaan told the police that he did buy five guns from Ejir and had sold three.
"I was introduced to Ejir in March by one Nevkaa," he said.
"I sold one of the five pistols I bought from him to one Mr. Jackson, a soldier for N50,000."
He however said he only sold the gun to the alleged armed robber because the latter said he wanted to use it to protect himself from cultist.
"It was Joseph (Ochani) that brought Peter (Ikumofu) to me that he needed a gun to protect himself.
"The two remaining guns were recovered from my house.”
He added that he was a graduate seeking to further his education in a university.
“I am an NCE holder.
"I sat for UTME last year to continue my education in the university and scored 224."
All the suspects were arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday on five counts bordering on armed robbery and illegal dealing in arms and ammunition.
