21-yr-old student arrested for killing pedestrian with motorcycle

A 21-year-old student, Onyebuchi Nwaebonyi, has been arraigned an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly killing a pedestrian while riding a motorcycle.

Two commercial buses and a Mercedes Benz sport utility were involved in the accident.

Nwaebonyi was arraigned on Tuesday on a five-count charge bordering on reckless driving, manslaughter and obstructing the highway.

The prosecutor, Inspector Cousin Adams, said the accused, who resides at No. 10, Fatiregun St., Ebute Meta, committed the offences at at Abule-Nla junction, along Apapa Road, Ebute Meta, on the 27th of August.

Adams told the court that the accused drove his motorcycle recklessly, causing the death of a pedestrian identified as Garuba Wasiu.

He said the offences contravened Sections 18, 19, and 20, Vol. 45 of the Lagos State Traffic Law 2012 and Section 31 of RTA Cap. 126 Vol. 4, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria.

After the accused pleaded not guilty, the Magistrate, Mrs O.A. Omisore, granted him bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties.

She then adjourned the case till 15th of September.
