State government shuts down 25 illegal schools

25 private schools running illegally in Kwara state have been shut down by the state government.

While speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), in llorin, the state Commissioner for Information and Communication, Alhaji Mahmud Ajeigbe, disclosed that some of the schools affected which are mainly primary and secondary schools, failed to meet the conditions laid down in the state for the establishment of schools.

Ajeigbe added that some of the schools which were closed, especially those located in the rural communities, were found to be operating in ill-suited learning environments.

He explained that the state government made the move in a bid to maintain the quality and qualitative standard of education.

Ajeigbe went on to reveal that the government has commenced screening for all schools in the state to find those violating the laws by which they were established.

“Several of the closed schools did not seek for approval of the government and they are operating under unhygienic environment,” Ajeigbe said.

According to a list provided by the state Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development on Monday, some of the affected schools include, Able God Nursery and Primary School Lanwa in Moro Local Government area, Hanivill College in Ilorin, Ali-Azeem Nursery and Primary School, Baruteen Local Government Area of the state, Nuru Islam Model School Kaima and Onaolapo Academy School, Ijagbo in Oyun Local Government Area of the state to name a few.
