What would have been a meal of Spaghetti, and some water has now led to the death of students of Queen's College, Yaba.

Two female boarding students, Vivian Osuinyi and Bithia Itulua, began vomiting and stooling and eventually died on the 23rd and 24th of February.

The Federal Ministry of Health stepped, ordering the shutdown of the school, and commencing an investigation into the incident. Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, visited the school himself to participate in the investigations. The Lagos State Government also sent officials to conduct their own investigations.

Based on findings, the diarrhoea reports began a month ago, when students started reporting cases of stooling and vomiting to the Sick Bay.

A staff of the school spoke to The Daily Sun, saying:

“As soon the SS III students finish their Mathematics examination, today (28th of February), they will go home. We have informed parents about their coming home. The health officials insisted the students must vacate the college to allow for thorough investigation.”

The school is supposed to resume for Junior Students next week, but this new development means students will have to stay at home for longer till Health officials deem it safe to resume school.

The Principal of the school, Dr Lami Amodu, has now been transferred to Federal Science and Technical College, Uromi, in the Esan North East Local Government Area of Edo State.
