Quality of education more important than number of universities — Emir of Kano
Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, has said improving the quality of education available at Nigerian tertiary is of more importance than the number of institutions available.
Sanusi made the comment on Monday when he received his letter of appointment as the new Chancellor of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) from the Minister of Education, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau.
The royal father said quality, not quantity should be the priority of government.
“We should not mind the number of universities but the quality of education the universities give to our youth to make them self-reliant," Sanusi said.
According to him, empowering the youth with quality education is the only way to make them self-reliant.
“Education should be given the priority attention, it deserves to empower the youth to enable them to be self-reliant and contribute towards the development of the country."
Sanusi and 37 other traditional rulers were appointed Chancellors of the 38 Federal Universities in the country.
