French police have begun a manhunt for two missing students Julien Perez-Piguet, 22, and Sarah Mazerolles, 21, who have not been seen since last Friday.
Police hunt begins after 2 French students disappear in Pyrenees Mountains
Julien Perez-Piguet and his coursemate Sarah Mazerolles have not been seen since they left their university in Spain. They may have disappeared in the mountains, even though police have found no trace of them there.
Both from the Bearn region of France, they left their university at the Spanish town of Saragossa on Friday evening.
Since then, the two physiotherapy students have not been seen anywhere.
Sky Newsthat Sarah had called her mother around 6pm on that day saying she was driving back to France with Julien, in his white Peugeot 206.
The last trace on them was a signal from Sarah's phone picked up in Canfranc, on the Spanish side of the border at 8.30pm.
It is feared that the students never crossed into France because investigators reviewing CCTV footage from the Somport tunnel which links France and Spain could not find any evidence that Julien's Peugeot passed through.
The students may have disappeared in the Pyrenees, a range of mountains forming a natural border between France and Spain.
Police on both sides of the border as well as fellow students have searched the steep sides of the mountain pass.
But nothing has been found so far forcing the police to make a Facebook appeal for witnesses.
