FG launches students' environment awareness programme
Students, as future leaders, need proper education on the menace of climate change, desertification, erosion, drought and other challenges threatening sustainable development in Nigeria, says the Minister of Environment, Lawrencia Mallam.
Speaking at the launch the Minister of Environment, Lawrencia Mallam, said students need proper education on the menace of climate change, desertification, erosion, drought and other challenges threatening sustainable development in the country.
According to reports, the minister, who was represented by Dr Bukka Hassan, Director Drought and Desertification, said the programme would ensure that students, as future leaders, become more conscious of their environment and begin to think of solutions to the challenges.
“With proper awareness, the students will in no distance time develop tools that policymakers can use in tackling the environmental problem that is facing us as a nation,” Hassan said.
A communication expert, Lilia Benzid, told participants that the programme was a simplification of the scientific findings on climate change for students to understand.
