Terrorists Abduct 200 Teenage School Girls in Borno

Most of the abducted girls, teenagers between the ages of 16 and 18, were writing their final-year senior secondary school certificate examinations.

Sources say the terrorists disguised in military uniforms and deceived the girls into going with them under the pretext of protecting them there was a threat from Boko Haram.

"They told the girls that they would be evacuated to a safe place so that they would not be kidnapped, and the vulnerable girls were convinced," said a source who spoke with Abuja based newspaper Daily Trust.

The girls soon realised they were being abducted and tried to escape, some jumping out of the moving trucks.

“However, while they were being taken away, they sensed danger from the utterances and body language of the terrorists. That was when some of them jumped out of the lorry which was going deep into the bush,” a source said.

"Other girls hung unto branches of trees as the truck passed through the bush and they found their way back to Chibok and other villages," said another source.

One of the abductees spoke on BBC radio about their ordeal.

“Upon seeing that, some girls close to the door dropped out of the car and run into the bush. We also followed them into the bush, where we stayed till the following morning before we headed back to our homes,” she said.

A parent of one of the abductees who also spoke on BBC Hausa radio, the terrorists took more than 300 students.

“In fact all those SS3 students writing their final year examination of WAEC have been abducted. Only few of them thrown out of the cars managed to escape," the distraught father said.

It was gathered that the terrorists also attacked Chibok town itself, destroying houses and shops.

“The gunmen armed with AK47 rifles, Improvised Explosive Devices, IED’s, and petrol bombs stormed Chibok on Monday evening and attacked one of the security posts and shot one security personnel, before abducting more than 100 female students, as well as setting some houses and shops ablaze within the vicinity," Mr. Nuhu Amos, a resident of Chibok, told Vanguard newspaper.

Borno state Police Commissioner Lawan Tanko confirmed the attack but failed to give further details.

“Yes, there was an attack in Chibok, yesterday evening by suspected members of Boko Haram terrorists, but we are yet to get details," he said.

This is not the first time that Boko Haram insurgen have abducted girls and women.
