Nigeria's former head of state, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (rtd) has been conferred with the Grand Honorary Foundation Fellow of the Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBU) Lapai, Niger State to mark his 73rd birthday.

A University has honoured General Babangida as he turned 73
Speaking during a visit to the former head of State, to congratulate him on his 73rd birthday anniversary, the Vice Chancellor of IBBU, Professor Ibrahim Adamu Kolo, said the institution has benefitted from his name.
“Your name has opened doors for us (the university). IBB University is proud to be associated with you. We are here to pray for you and thank you for your contributions to the university endowment,” the VC said.
Kolo thanked the former military leader for his contributions to the institution, highlighting a recent donation for the construction of a permanent Senate complex.
IBBU was named after IBB in 2004 by Engineer Abdulkadir Kure, then Governor of Kogi State.
Several dignitaries, including another former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Adamu Muazu, Governor of Delta State, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan, former Governor of Niger state Engineer Abdulkadir Kure, among others, attended IBB's low-key birthday ceremony held at his Hilltop residence.
General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida was born on August 17, 1941 and he ruled Nigeria from 27 August 1985 until 27 August 1993.
