Buhari, GEJ, others' ambitions not worth Nigerians' lives — NANS

NANS has urged President Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari to ensure that the 2015 elections are violence free. The students' body says it is imperative to ensure that a repeat of the post-2011 polls does not occur.

Nigerian students have urged politicians running for different offices to ensure that the 2015 general elections are violence free because their ambitions are not worth the loss of Nigerians' lives.

The national leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), in a statement issued by the President, Comrade Ali Wali, urged President Goodluck Jonathan of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and other politicians, to ensure that the February polls are violence-free.

“Nigeria is greater than anybody. It is therefore necessary for all politicians seeking election to ensure that the common wealth of the country is not sacrificed on the altar of selfishness, impunity or personal interest,” Comrade Wali said.

“No politician’s personal interest is worth the life of any Nigerian. Nigeria is greater than anybody. Let our leaders abide by their words and safeguard our common wealth and peaceful coexistence.”

Pointing to the violence that trailed the 2011 polls, Wali said both Presidential candidates have a role to play.
