Why Super Eagles boss still wants former skipper?

Enyeama quit from the Super Eagles in October 2015 following a clash with then coach, Sunday Oliseh.

In his absence, Carl Ikeme has been the number one goalkeeper with Emmanuel Daniel, Ikechukwu Ezenwa and Daniel Akpey all supporting.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have not really missed Enyeama. Against Super Eagles 2-1 win at Zambia in their first game of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, Ikeme was Super Eagles man of the match, making some crucial saves to keep the game at 1-2.

In their next game against Algeria at home, Daniel Akpeyi was also impressive, so also in the 1-1 friendly game against Senegal in March 2017.

The question now is why does Rohr still need Enyeama?

It’s simple, he does not trust the goalkeepers available.

Rohr wants the very best to play for the Super Eagles and Enyeama remains the best Nigerian goalkeeper right now.

Ikeme has also been struggling with injuries and is reportedly set to miss the remainder of the season because of a hamstring injury.

“The door is open for Vincent Enyeama in the national team . I think he had a problem with the federation, so he wanted someone to call him before coming. They called him or they didn’t reach him I don’t know”, Rohr recently said in a recent interview.

“We have three goalkeepers at the moment but we will welcome everybody who will respect our work rate, solidarity, humility and not expect special favours. So the door is opened also to Enyeama.”

2017 is a very crucial year for the Super Eagles, with the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers kicking off while the qualifiers for the 2018 FIFA World Cup also continue.

Rohr wants the best Nigerian players available for the Super Eagles and Enyeama remains one of them.
