Syd is unashamedly intimate and strong on “Fin”
“Fin” is a record of confidence and intimacy, a rare and satisfying combination that Syd has pulled off quite remarkably.

Syd is a new voice, and that’s why she stands out. Songriter and charismatic performer, she is more known as being the focal point of R&B group The Internet. And she has released her debut solo album titled “.”
Born in Los Angeles as Sydney Bennet, the 24 year old is part of a fine group of musicians, inclusive of Frank Ocean and her brother Taco, who came on to the radar with Tyler, The Creator and Odd Future. She has worked with The Internet on three projects, but the most successful has been the 2015 breakthrough album, “Ego Death”, which was nominated for a Grammy, and provided the smash hit single ‘Girl’.
She is now stepping out into the light on her own; a promising artist with a hit making skill, and a brand that draws people in like honey to a beekeeper.
“Fin” begins and concludes with Syd doubting herself, but in between there’s a courage that exists in all of her music. The singer is gay, so she flips the genre, giving appreciation to women who are her lovers, while self-reflecting through it all.
The braggadocio on ‘Shake em off’ is appealing, as she explores darker R&B motifs. ‘Know’ is an appreciation of Aaliyah and Timbaland, as Syd’s lazy, sexual vocals and the production aping the 90’s duo. While the short and refreshing ‘Drown in it’ is one of the best and admittedly graphic interludes ever.
