“Nigerian leaders are enemies of themselves” - Anglican bishop of Badagry

Bishop Babatunde Adeyemi said leaders across the nation must come together, stop working against the country and work with one another for the greater good of the country

Bishop Adeyemi said this during the 10th year Consecration Anniversary and Thanksgiving Service of his bishopric in the Badagry diocese.

He noted that there was no force against Nigeria, but the leaders, who he also described as “enemies of themselves.”

Punch reports that the bishop said leaders across the nation must come together, stop working against the country and work with one another for the greater good of the country.

He said if such was done, the country would become better for present and future generations, adding that Nigerians must also rally round their leaders to ensure their success.

Adeyemi said, “I believe if our leaders work with a sense of togetherness, Nigeria will be good for us and the future generations.

“I don’t believe in those predicting doom for the nation. Your leaders should allow things to work. They are the enemies of themselves.

“Nobody is against this country except the leadership and the leaders need to repent. We go to other countries; we visit other places and see the good things there. Why can’t we replicate them in our nation? It is because of selfishness; but, I believe we will overcome.

“To those of us who are followers, when a shepherd says ‘go’, the sheep answers the call of the shepherd. We should rally round our leaders, pray for our nations and do what is right.

“I want to plead with those who are attacking INEC. They should allow INEC to work so that we can have free and fair elections.”

The Diocesan Chancellor, Olusola Hunpoknu-Wusu, noted that God had been faithful to the diocese in the last 10 years as the diocese witnessed growth.

Justice Hunpoknu-Wusu said, “But we believe that the next decade will be better. When the diocese started in 2005, we had about 40 churches, but now we are proud to say we have grown to about 55 churches. We expect that with industrialisation of Badagry, we will have more parishes.”

Bishop of Jebba diocese, Rt. Rev. Sunday Adewole, who was also present at the event,  advised everybody in the diocese to continue to render their services to God by contributing meaningfully to the development of the diocese.
