The annual Hajj is almost drawing to an end with about 1.4 million people participating in the pilgrimage which takes place in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.

This year's Hajj pilgrimage will officially end on Tuesday October 7.

The hajj is known as one of the 5 pillars of faith a Muslim must participate in before dying, which involves gathering to pray as one community, celebrating history and thanksgiving.

The pilgrimage to the holy land has been in existence since pre-Islamic times and Mecca has greatly transformed both in structures and the number of faithfuls that come to pray annually.
