Gunmen kill 36 non-Muslims in Kenya

Just less than two weeks after the killing of 28 Christians in a bus in Kenya, 36 Christian quarry workers were killed this morning by gunmen after separating them from Muslims.

Gunmen have killed 36 Christians after separating them from Muslims at a quarry near the north Kenyan town of Mandera.

According to , just as Islamist militants of Somalia-based Al-Shabab group did when they killed 28 in a bus a fortnight ago, the gunmen suspected to be from the same group separated Muslims from non-Muslims and killed the non-Muslims who were reportedly all Christians.

The attack on the quarry workers took place early morning of Tuesday, December 2 as they were caught unaware while sleeping in their tents. According to , most of the victims were shot in the head while four persons were beheaded.

Many of the quarry workers killed are reported to have come from the south of the country where Christians predominate.

Gunmen had earlier on the night of Monday, December 1 opened fire and threw grenades on a bar in the town of Wajir killing one and injuring 12. No group has so far taken responsibilities for the attacks but they are wildly believed to be members of Somalia-based Al-Shabab group.

Al-Shabab has stepped up its campaign in Kenya since 2011, when Kenya sent troops across the border to help battle the militants.
