Daily Times reports that the armed robbers numbered six had come looking for the proceeds of a fund raising made by the church and had overpowered the security guards numbered five, after scaling the fence.
It was gathered that the robbers came armed with axes, diggers and sledge hammers which they had used to break the safe but discovered it was empty, they allegedly ordered the security men to lead them to the church vicar whom they asked to produce the money raised.
Reports say it took the plea and explanation of one of the guards before the pastor's life was spared.
The guard allegedly told the robbers that as a Baptist pastor, he didn't have anything to do with the church money, before they dispossessed the pastor and the entire resident in the vicarage of their belongings such as laptops, trinkets and cash.
According to Daily Times, a source said the matter had been reported to the police. When contacted, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ajayi Okasanmi, said his office had been informed about the incident.
