Never forget - Wilderness (3)

Forgetting about God when the pressure’s off, and when we’re relaxing on the other side of the wilderness, is at best, ungrateful, and at worst, pretty fatal for our relationship with Him.

Memory Verse; Deuteronomy 8:15 - "Who led thee through that great and terrible wilderness, wherein were fiery serpents, and scorpions, and drought, where there was no water; who brought thee forth water out of the rock of flint"

The Word for Today devotional by United Christian Broadcasters (UCB) says:

In Deuteronomy 8, Moses is reminding Israel of all the amazing things God has done for them, and how He has always looked after them.

You’d think that walking through a sea would be enough on its own. Apparently not. But actually, before we point a finger at these guys and judge them for their short memories and general unfaithfulness, we reckon we’re not much different.

Ever been through a tough time that you prayed your socks off about? Then seen God come through for you in a way you were certain you’d never forget? Then, later, found yourself thinking ‘I’ll get around to spending time with God soon, it doesn’t have to be now… If I only sin a little bit, I’m sure He’ll forgive me… I like doing this, who cares what God says?...’ It’s too easy to slip down that road.

In another wilderness miracle, God made a rock split open and enough water spring up to quench the thirst of a nation. And yet, Israel forgot, and went back to moaning quicker than you can say ‘wait, wasn’t that a miracle that shows that God cares for us?...’

God wants us to learn from these wilderness times: no matter how hopeless we get, relying on Him is the only way forwards. It’s almost as if that relationship with Him is even more important than any trouble we face...hmmm…. What now?

Today, whenever you get a drink (probs not from a rock), thank God for another thing He’s done for you
