Lagos labour leader challenges incoming Governor

He stated that all the housing schemes initiated by the Lagos state government are beyond the reach of the common workers who work tirelessly for the progress of the state.

Nigerian Labour Congress takes on incoming Lagos state Governor on workers' housing.

Speaking to journalists, the Lagos state chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) decried the unavailability of an organised housing system for workers in the state.

He also called on the incoming Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode to construct low cost housing for the workers of Lagos state. Adding that it will reduce the accommodation challenges of the workers.

He also said that “Housing remains the most required possession of a Lagos worker who is at the whims and caprices of the landlord who in most cases act arbitrarily as the whims catches him/her at the peril of worker-tenant who is at the receiving end unprotected by the law.”

Comrade Tokuboh Korodo, Lagos Chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress also said. 'A situation where a worker is forced to pay about N500,000 per annum as rent in a remote part of Lagos is unfair and malicious.'
