FG, Lafarge partner to build 500 housing units

Lafarge's GMD said one of the company’s objectives included helping to build bigger and better cities in Nigeria because the nation has enormous potential and a very large housing deficit.

Mr. Guillaume Roux, Group Managing Director Lafarge Africa Plc, has said that the firm will soon start work on a site allocated to it by the Federal Government to build 500 housing units in the Federal Capital Territory.

Roux made this known in an interview with journalists at the 1st distinguished lecture series of the Nigerian Institute of Archtects/Lafarge Africa Plc. which was delivered by former Vice President, Dr. Alex Ekwueme in Abuja on Thursday.

The GMD said one of the company’s objectives included helping to build bigger and better cities in Nigeria because the nation has enormous potential and a very large housing deficit.

“We are currently working hand-in-hand with the government, professionals and businesses to deliver more housing. For example, the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development has allocated land in Abuja to Lafarge to develop mass affordable housing.

“We have solutions for affordable housing through a partnership with LAPO Microfinance Bank and have impacted close to 2,000 people. We are currently working with architects to build iconic and architectural masterpieces with our range of cement and concrete products

“We are also working on a construction development lab, which we will use to develop more innovative products to meet local needs.” He said.

Roux also said that the company was partnering with the government on all levels to quicken the construction of the infrastructure and houses.
