9 things you should know about the U.S president's guest house

After the confirmation made by the Shehu Garba, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, on Twitter, here are some vital things you should know about the revered guest house.

The Nigerian president, Muhammadu Buhari has been confirmed to stay at the official guest house of the U.S president, .

1. The Blair House is Situated on 1651–1653 Pennsylvania Avenue NW in Washington, D.C., opposite the Eisenhower Executive Office Building of the White House, off the corner of Lafayette Park.

2. The main house was built in 1824 as a brick house and private home for Joseph Lovell, eighth Surgeon General of the United States Army but was acquired in 1836 by Francis Preston Blair, a newspaper publisher and influential advisor to President Andrew Jackson.

3. In 1942, the house was purchased by the U.S. government and has since been the official residence for guests of the U.S. president.

4. The Blair House has housed several presidents-elect of the United States and their families the last few nights before their initial inauguration as guests in the house.

5. The guest house has three gardens which were created during the major renovation in 1980s and were funded by Mr and Mrs Jack Massey, Arthur and Janet Ross and Fleur Cowles.

6. Inside the house are the Abraham Lincoln room, Blair drawing rooms, Library, Lee dining room, Truman Study, Jackson Place Conference and Jackson Place Sitting Room.

7. Some of the African presidents that have slept in The Blair House include Late Nelson Mandela, while he was the President of the Republic of South Africa, His Excellency William R. Tolbert, President of the Republic of Liberia, His Majesty Mohammed VI, King of Morocco, His Excellency Anwar El-Sadat, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Abdelaziz Bouteflika, President of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, His Excellency Hosni Mubarak, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt

8. Muhammadu Buhari is the first Nigerian president to be invited to stay at The Blair House.

9. The Blair House has an official guest book log in that records the details and stay of every presidential stay in the official state guest house.
