Announcing the winners, Hilde Schwab, Co-Founder and Chairperson, Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship, highlighted the role of social entrepreneurs.
“Social entrepreneurs are the driving force behind innovations that improve the quality of life of individuals around the world, and they represent an integral and dynamic community of the World Economic Forum,” Hilde Schwab said.
"The 2014 winners were selected in recognition of their innovative approaches and potential for global impact," a report on the World Economic Forum website reveals.
The thirty seven awardees, chosen from the health, education, employment, and the environment fields, are now part of the Schwab Foundation network of outstanding social entrepreneurs.
Selected social entrepreneurs of the Schwab Foundation network participate in World Economic Forum events.
This presents them a unique opportunity to connect with business, political and media leaders.
The Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship "identifies a select community of social entrepreneurs and engages it in shaping global, regional and industry agendas that improve the state of the world in close collaboration with the other stakeholders of the World Economic Forum" and “provides platforms at regional and global levels to highlight and advance leading models of sustainable social innovation," says the company website.
Meanwhile, nominations are already open for the 2015 award (read about it here).
