Shame on you Amaechi, Wike, Ganduje, Oyegun

Ahead of the Rivers legislative elections, our politicians haven't covered themselves in glory . They should be ashamed of themselves

The rhetoric ahead of the Rivers parliamentary election has been disgusting to watch and read.

C'mon!

Consider this from APC ChairmanJohn Odigie-Oyegun: “I am glad with what I am hearing here today; very glad. If they push you, push them back. If they slap you, slap them back.

“I am very pleased with the turnout here today. It shows you are truly ready. As you can see, we came in force. The whole federal might is here. You have the Governors of this nation here today.”

Gross? Not yet.

Take a look at comments from Transport Minister Rotimi Amaechi:“This is what is called election of our lives. You know I have never spoken like this before. Do not kill anybody; but, don’t allow yourself to be killed. We also have to protect ourselves.

“I don’t want to hear that they snatched the result sheet from you.  If they snatch it, collect it back from them. My phone will be switched off. Nobody should call me.  The only time you will call me is from 6pm when you have won the election.”

We aren't done just yet. Here's Rivers Governor Nyesom Wike: ”The moment you touch my chief security officer, you are telling me that you are ready for me. I am pleading with you, my life is very important; I will not take any chief security officer you bring to me that I don’t know".

Let's put you out of your misery. What is happening in Rivers State on Saturday, December 10, 2016 (tomorrow) isn't the 2nd world war. It's an election to fill in legislative vacancies.

But you wouldn't have guessed that from all the "if they shoot you...if they kill you...." rhetoric right?

APC has accused Rivers Governor Wike of stockpiling weapons ahead of the election.

PDP has accused APC of getting the military to rig the election.

Petty much?

Even Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, joined in on the sabre-rattling.

Look, we are done.

When politicians make an election appear like some third world war, we have to question their leadership qualities and sanity.

When members of the governing party make an election appear like some Armageddon, we just have to wonder why we entrusted them with so much responsibilities in the first instance.

Politicians shouldn't be inciting violence ahead of an election. They should be suing for peace.

Go ahead and sue us, we are naive like that.

Thankfully, President Muhammadu Buhari has infused some maturity into this whole drama.

“The rerun elections should not be seen as a do-or-die  to the extent that people will be killed, maimed and property destroyed in a mindless display of crude primitive instincts,” the President said.

Here's commonsense: let the people of Rivers decide who represents them in parliament in an atmosphere devoid of all the rancour and hate politicians have whipped up.

Our politicians really should do better.

Shame on you, Oyegun, Amaechi, Wike, Ganduje, APC and PDP. You guys are just a bunch of whining, silly babies!
