INEC to meet governorship candidates

This is coming on the heels of Jimoh Ibrahim's call for the transfer of the Ondo REC.

This is coming on the heels of Jimoh Ibrahim, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) guber candidate's call for the transfer of the Ondo Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC).

According to Punch, INEC’s boss, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu dismissed Ibrahim’s comment, saying  the Ondo REC, Segun Agbaje will not be transferred.

Also speaking on the issue, INEC’s spokesman, Rotimi Oyekanmi said “The stakeholders’ meeting in Ondo State has been fixed for Tuesday, November 22. It will be attended by all the contestants, the security agencies, civil society organisations both local and foreign, that had been registered by INEC.

“We will want to appeal to all the contestants to play by the rules and also speak to their supporters on the need to have a peaceful election.

“On the side of the commission, we would conduct a free, fair, peaceful  and acceptable election. The contestants and the voters however have roles to play in order for us to achieve this.”

Adding that “We have no plan to redeploy the Ondo REC, Mr. Segun Agbaje, who is one of the commission’s best and he is also doing a wonderful job in the state.”

The Ondo state Governorship election is slated to hold on Saturday, November 26, 2016.

Meanwhile, the Ondo All Progressives Congress (APC) guber candidate, Rotimi Akeredolu has alleged that the state Governor, Olusegun Mimiko is planning to postpone the upcoming governorship election.
