APC Senators reportedly engage in physical combat over leadership positions

The incident is said to have occurred on Tuesday, June 23, 2015, during a meeting of the APC Senators.

Senator-members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have reportedly engaged in physical combat over the filling of leadership positions in the Senate.

The incident is said to have occurred on Tuesday, June 23, 2015, during a meeting of the Senators, according to Vanguard.

The trouble reportedly started when Senators loyal to Senate President, Bukola Saraki insisted that the leaders must be chosen through an electoral process while those loyal to Senator Ahmed Lawan demanded that only the persons chosen by the APC should fill the posts.

The alleged physical combat is said to have ensued between Senator Kabir Marafa representing Zamfara Central and Senator Tayo Alasoadura of Ondo Central.

The situation was however reportedly resolved with the intervention of Kwara State Senator, Rafiu Ibrahim.

The rift between Saraki and Lawan  began after the former contested the Senate Presidency and won despite the latter being chosen as the APC’s sole candidate for the position.
