Fayemi, who lost his re-election bid to incumbent Ayo Fayose in the June, 2014, gubernatorial polls, was named Buhari's list of nominated member of the Federal Executive Council (FEC).
According to the party's Publicity Secretary, Taiwo Olatunbosun, in a statement issued in Ado-Ekiti, Fayemi's nomination is a right move by Buhari because the former governor fits in his change agenda.
“Fayemi fits into the change agenda espoused by President Buhari,” Olatunbosun said.
He noted that Fayemi is a dependable and forthright compatriot who performed creditably well while steering affairs of Ekiti state and would replicate same in Buhari's government.
"In the four years as the governor of Ekiti State, he raised the bar of good governance and posted benefits of democratic representative governance to the level never witnessed in the state since its creation.
“We are rest assured that he will bring the same spirit to bare in steering the wheel of the change agenda to the satisfaction of the President and to the applause of Nigerians."
The spokesman also said Fayemi's record of transparency must have influenced his nomination
“Besides this is his record of transparency and accountability in Ekiti State, which we believe is what propelled President Buhari to pick him as the minister.
“In this period when the services of such men are needed to give Nigerians hope of bright future, it is a sabotage of the first order for any group to start plotting to deny Nigerians the services of such a man in our efforts towards national salvation."
Many Nigerians, including a Senator representing Bayelsa East Senatorial district at the National Assembly, Ben Murray-Bruce, have continued to react to the much awaited list.
