PDP accuses DSS of trying to disrupt election tribunal

The Peoples Democratic Party has accused the DSS of trying to compromise the election tribunal in Rivers State and facilitate a totalitarian regime

PDP National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh

The leadership of the opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, yesterday accused the Department of State Security Service, DSS, of planning to compromise the election tribunal in Rivers State, Vanguard reports.

National Publicity Secretary of PDP, Chief Olisa Metuh, said to the press after the party's National Working Committee meeting on Wednesday:

‎”PDP has uncovered plot by the newly appointed DG DSS to interfere on political issues especially tribunal matters, in that regard the NWC  is aware that the DG DSS has even invited some people in relation to Rivers state and other states tribunal and trying to discuss such matters with tribunal members.

The PDP alerts the national and international communities that this gross interference in democratic affairs can lead to totalitarian regime.”

Similarly, the PDP has  also raised complaint about the dissolution of local government councils in Plateau and Katsina states,  saying that by dismantling local government structures unilaterally,  the police has aided and abetted them in truncating the tenure of duly elected local councils.

Metuh who explained that the NWC was in the process of re-constituting the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT) in consultation with stakeholders as result of defection from the party, maintained that the NWC has also approved the ward and state congresses for Anambra state to begin from Tuesday next week. ‎
