PDP accuses APC, INEC of plotting to postpone re-run election

The PDP alleged that INEC is planning to announce the postponement of the rerun giving insecurity as the reason.

Gov. Nyesom Wike

The PDP said it reliably gathered that the APC, in collaboration with top officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), have perfected plans to further shift the rerun.

The PDP alleges that INEC is planning to give insecurity as the reason for yet another postponement.

The Chairman of the PDP in Rivers State, Chief Felix Obuah, described the plot as disappointing and  retrogressive.

"Right from the outset, the APC has never shown any readiness to genuinely participate in a free, fair and peaceful election in the state, obviously for fear of losing in the electoral contest," Obuah said in a statement.

However, the APC has denied the allegations, describing it as mischievous.

The River State APC Chairman, Dr Davies Ikanya, said: "The APC is not INEC that has the sole power to fix the dates for elections in Nigeria. We are not members of any security organ in Nigeria that would determine if it is okay to hold any election in a Governor Nyesom Wike and PDP-influenced volatile environment like River State."

INEC had announced that the suspended rerun elections in some local government areas of the state would hold in October, but did not fix any particular date.
