President Goodluck Jonathan’s campaign convoy was on Thursday, January 29, attacked by angry youths in Yola, Adamawa State.

The angry residents threw stones at vehicles in the convoy and ended up breaking windshields and windows, The Associated Press reports.

The mob was said to have been dispersed by police officers using tear gas and whips.

Residents of Yola are also said to have expressed anger at the deployment of soldiers to guard Jonathan’s campaign posters and billboards when they should be fighting Boko Haram.

“Why are they using soldiers and other security operatives? They should be deployed to Sambisa and fight with Boko Haram, not with innocent civilians,” one youth reportedly said while tearing down a poster.

Members of Boko Haram are said to have gone on a recent rampage in Adamawa State burning and looting homes in seven communities with no resistance from security officials.
