APC accuses Governor of spending state's money on his court cases

APC claims since the beginning of the case, Fayose’s lawyer has flown from Lagos to Akure twice at the expense of the state government.

Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State

In a statement issued by the Publicity Secretary, Taiwo Olatunbosun, in Ado Ekiti, the party claims it can prove that the N22 million spent to charter aircraft that conveyed Fayose's lawyer, Mike Ozekhome from Lagos to Akure airport was allegedly taken from the state’s treasury.

Fayose had taken the EFCC to court, claiming the Commission's move to freeze his bank accounts over his alleged role in the diverted arms cash is illegal.

However, the Governor's Chief Press Secretary, Mr Idowu Adelusi, swiftly dismissed the allegation, challenging the party to come forward with its evidence.

“That kind of allegation can only come from the dirty minds of APC members in Ekiti. There is nothing like that and if they have strong evidence, the EFCC which has become a department of the APC is there for them to do their bidding," Adelusi said.

“The APC should stop disturbing sensibility of Nigerians and face squarely the myriads of problems confronting the people.”

Fayose is being investigated by the EFCC for alleged fraudulent diversion of arms cash from the office of the former National Security Adviser, Col Sambo Dasuki, to finance his election.

In light of this, the anti-graft Commission weeks ago froze his Zenith bank accounts after about N1.21 billion of the cash was traced to them.

Several billions of naira was also traced to bank accounts of his associate, Abiodun Agbele, who is currently in EFCC custody.

Fayose has since denied events of any financial dealings between him and Dasuki, claiming Zenith bank funded his election, but the bank denied his claim.
