Governor has saved Kaduna N1.2bn – Aide

The governor was able to save the money by blocking leakages and cutting the cost of running the government.

Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai has saved the state government N1.2billion since assuming office, one of his aide has said.

This was disclosed by El-Rufai’s Special Adviser on Politics, Uba Sani, during a chat with journalists.

Sani said:

“Before the coming of Governor Nasiru El-Rufai, Kaduna state government was running on N100m deficit every month”, consequently, after the payment of salaries and overhead costs, the state will not be able to do anything again. No capital projects from anywhere because there is no money.”

“All the measures that have been introduced by the governor are people’s oriented projects and I can assure you that anybody that is making noise about the governor’s programmes so far, is only trying to score cheap political publicity.”

“You know that the governor has initiated a lot of things, but they are not talking about that because they want the children of the poor to remain poor in the state.”

“Those who have taken Kaduna state two decades backwards are the ones making noise about demolition of houses in Kaduna. They were the same people that the state trained with good and conducive atmosphere in their schools then, but the only way they could pay back is to dubiously collect schools and hospitals premises and render them dilapidated because their children are not schooling in this country and neither are their families visiting the public hospitals.”

Upon assumption of office, El-Rufai announced that both he and his deputy would only receive 50% of their expected salary.

He also said that the government would no longer distribute free food during Ramadan as part of his cost-saving tactics.
