Why President’s delayed ministerial list might be delayed even further

However, it seems that the long wait for ministers is set to continue as the National Assembly, which is expected to consider Buhari’s ministerial list, has adjourned sitting till July 21.

President Muhammadu Buhari’s delay in appointing ministers into his cabinet has been a source of controversy since he took office on May 29, 2015.

Senate President, Bukola Saraki has said that the Senate can reconvene at any time before that date to attend to ‘matters of national importance’ but there has reportedly been no communication between the two on how and when that will happen.

According to The Cable, the President is displeased with Saraki’s leadership so it’s unlikely that Buhari will call the Senate President to as for a reconvening.

“The likelihood of reconvening the senate during the month-long break is there, but Buhari is so irked by Saraki’s leadership that it will take a miracle for him to call Saraki and request that the senate be reconvened to consider his ministerial list,” an APC Senator said.

Saraki adjourned the Senate on Thursday, June 25, after nominating Senator Ali Ndume as Majority Leader, a move which was contrary to the wishes of his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Senate President had earlier plunged the party into crisis after going ahead to contest for and win the position despite being excluded by the APC through a straw poll.
