President Muhammadu Buhari has denied having a northern agenda after his recent appointments led to widespread outrage and criticism.

Buhari has appointed 11 officials so far, 10 from northern Nigeria and one from the South-West, leading some to accuse him of favouritism.

However, presidential media aide, Femi Adesina, dismissed the assumption while speaking to Vanguard on Sunday, July 5, 2015.
Adesina said:
“The president received a national mandate and was going to pursue it as such. The president does not have a northern agenda. He has a national agenda. He got a national mandate and that is the way he is going to exercise that mandate. I have already said it and I still maintain that.”
The appointments in question include: Acting Chairman, the Independent National Electoral Commission, Mrs Amina Bala Zakari, Jigawa State;Accountant-General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris, Kano State; Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu and Lawal Daura, Director-General, DSS among others.
