Chieftain says party is ready for opposition in Anambra governorship poll

An APGA chieftain has said that the party is not scared by the “grandstanding” of the opposition parties ahead of the governorship poll.

Okogbuo made this known in his Uzuakoli country home in Bende Local Government Area of Abia.

“We know that Anambra is the stronghold of APGA. The people of the state are solidly behind the party and the hardworking governor, Chief Willie Obiano.

“Ask them anytime, any day, they will tell you that Obiano is the man they know,” he said.

He dismissed the speculation in some quarters that the ruling All Progressives Congress at the centre would deploy security agencies in the state to rig the election in favour of its candidate.

He said, “I am not worried by such speculations and propaganda.

“What I am sure of is that the people of Anambra will resist such a move with their last blood,” the APGA chieftain said.

He expressed the optimism that Obiano would have a landslide victory in the November election, saying that the governor “is the candidate to beat” in the exercise.

He said, “Obiano has delivered on his campaign promises. We are expecting a 99 per cent vote for him from tthe people of Anambra.

“He has proved to be a visionary, dependable and committed governor, acceptable to all strata of the state, including the young and old,” Okogbuo said.

He said that he was happy that the governor did not disappoint the Anambra people in his first tenure.

He said that he was sure that the people would renew his mandate for a second tenure.

“In politics, when someone performs creditably in his first tenure, the people reward him with a fresh mandate, the case of Obiano will not be an exception,” he said.

Okogbuo lauded Obiano for “building on the solid foundation and structures laid by his predecessors in office.”

He said that former governors, Dr Chris Ngige and Mr Peter Obi, identified and “religiously tackled the socio-economic and political challenges facing the state.

“The people of the state are happy with him because under his watch, Anambra recorded superlative achievement in economic and infrastructure development.

“He has put Anambra on the global map as one of the fastest growing economies in Nigeria,” Okogbuo said
