Female Suicide Bomber Responsible For Blast

The woman, who was wearing a hijab, joined a queue in front of the bank’s ATM along with other customers before she detonated the explosive, which was hidden under the garment.

The explosion which occurred at a First Bank branch in Bauchi on Friday, November 7, 2014 has been blamed on a female suicide bomber.

The incident has been confirmed by the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, in the state, DSP Haruna Mohammed who said:

“On the 7/11/2014 at about 10:05hrs,there was a bomb explosion suspected to have been carried out by a female suicide bomber at First Bank premises in Azare Town, Bauchi State.”

“The entire surrounding have been cordoned off and swept by Police Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit, E.O.D and four suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident and they are assisting the police with useful information that could aid investigation,” he added.

The body of the bomber was said to have been split in two with the head found near an old suya spot in the area.

There have been conflicting reports of the actual casualty figure as while authorities in the state say that 7 people died, witnesses have said that the explosion claimed up to 20 lives.
