A prequel is in the works
The eccentric star of 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' is getting a prequel at Warner.Bros.

According to the report, Warner Bros. has acquired the rights to the “Willy Wonka" IP from the Roald Dahl Estate and is planning a new movie centered around the eccentric character.
A standalone film "focused on Wonka and his early adventures," the movie will be produced by David Heyman and Michael Siegel, and scripted by Simon Rich.
The original Willy Wonka, undefined
Wilder played Wonker in the 1971 British-American musical fantasy film. An adaptation of the 1964 novel "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," the movie tells the story of Charlie Bucket as he receives a Golden Ticket and visits Willy Wonka's chocolate factory.
A reboot was also made in 2005, directed by Tim Burton and starring Johnny Depp as Wonka.
There has been no report on cast of upcoming prequel.
