A TV series based on the 2004 movie that starred Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams is in works at the CW.

The network has revealed that it is developing a series based on the movie which was inspired by Nicholas Sparks' best selling 1996 novel of same name.

The upcoming series will follow the romantic journey of the two beloved central characters Noah and Allie, at the outset of their blossoming relationship as they build their lives and their future together against the backdrop of the racial politics, economic inequities, and social mores of post-World War II of the late 1940s in North Carolina.

The older couple storyline will however be absent in the upcoming series, The CW president Mark Pedowitz revealed at the Television Critics Association’s press tour in Beverly Hills.

“I don’t believe we’re going to see the older couple. But things change. I’m thrilled Nick Sparks wanted to do it at The CW,”  he said.

The 2004 'Notebook' film was a hit which shot McAdams and Gosling into stardom.

'The Notebook' series will be produced by Nicholas Sparks Productions and Warner Bros.
