1. The much talked about film set the record as the highest opening weekend with an estimate of $238.0M, beating "Jurassic World" which previously held the position with $208.8M.

2. The movie emerged the highest Thursday preview gross ever with $57 million.

3. It also went on to set a new record as the highest single day and Friday gross with $120.5 million.

4. "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" is currently the first film to surpass $100 million in just a day.

5. Finally, the movie is currently the highest December opening theatre count (4,134) of all time. A position previously held by "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" with 4,045.

The Walt Disney Company Africa recently announced that "Star Wars: The Force Awakens " broke the record for the biggest opening Wednesday in South African Box Office history.

The movie replaced the previous title holder, Marvel’s 2013 release of " which grossed R4 726 865.00 on Wednesday 16 December, its first day of release, with over 70 000 fans flocking to cinemas.

Starring Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew and Max Von Sydow, the upcoming film is produced by Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams and Bryan Burk.
