Pulse takes Mauritius

Pulse entertainment visits the beautiful volcanic island to discover new content from Multichoice.

One of the joys of being a journalist is that you never know where your job will take you. In the last 48 hours, I’ve almost lost track of what day and time it is. On Monday alone, I had been in three different countries – (Lagos) Nigeria, (Dubai) United Arab Emirates and my final destination being Mauritius.

I’ve always had Mauritius penned down as one of my honeymoon destinations with the future-Mr so the thought of actually being able to come here for work seemed so surreal that I didn’t pack until Monday 31, August 2015, the morning of my trip.

What takes me to this beautiful southeast coast African Island is the Multichoice 2015 content showcase. There are no direct flights from Nigeria to Mauritius, so I hopped on an Emirates flight with a group of Nigerian journalists and bloggers.

Six hours from Lagos to Dubai and another six hours from Dubai to Mauritius. 12 hours is a long time for a flight, but it all seems like a breeze when you are traveling in business class.

I absolutely loved the Emirates flight from Dubai to Mauritius, the business class cocoons on the A380, which is double-decker aeroplane, were super luxurious and cosy.

With a personal side mini bar, charging points, a screen for games and movies, an ipad and even Wi-Fi! The comfort on this flight was ridiculous. (If I could live on a plane, I would live on the A380).

We arrived in Mauritius in the afternoon on Tuesday, 1 September 2015. Compared to Nigeria, immigration on the volcanic Island was stress-free, no queues, and very clean. We received our visas at the airport. (So thankfully, there wasn't that three weeks to a month wait for a visa).

On the drive to the hotel located in the south east of the Island, there was the smell of sea salt and sugar cane. Sugar-cane is one of the biggest exports of the country.  After driving for an hour, we finally arrived at the Outriggers Resort.

That evening, we were hosted to a night of glamour and glitz at the opening gala tagged 'A Night Of A Thousand Stars' which had a combined theme of Hollywood, Nollywood and Bollywood. Guests at the event were treated like real stars with paparazzi begging to take pictures at the red carpet to even getting our own stars.

After a long day of travelling, exploring and a fab evening of entertainment, guess who slept like a baby?

With the showcase, Multichoice is creating an opportunity for people to discover “#OnlyTheBest” they have to offer. Keep following for my daily reporter’s diary for what’s new and what’s coming next.
