Governor Fashola has promised Nollywood the assistance of the government in battling the global phenomenon 'piracy'.

Speaking at the gathering, Nollywood veteran Tunde Kelani said the industry is witnessing a different level of piracy.

According to him, films produced in Nigeria are pirated, released and sold on the streets of Lagos  while still showing in cinemas.

“This is destroying lives, property, business and the industry as a whole" - He said.

“Piracy is a global phenomenon, not just a Nigerian problem but what has been done in other climes is that they have been able to reduce it to the barest minimum.

“Perhaps, more defining is that we should not leave the business of lawmaking to lawmakers alone." - He said.
