48 hours later, still no full list of winners

The issue of not making winners list available to the public isn't one peculiar to the BON Awards.

Best of Nollywood 2016

The issue of not making winners list available to the public isn't one peculiar to the BON Awards. It is rather one that has become a tradition over years among various award platforms.

For an annual event that held its first edition on December 6, 2009, it has been eight years of 'honouring outstanding achievement' in the Nigerian Movie Industry. However, being in the business for eight years has done nothing to aid their growth technologically.

The event held on Saturday, December 10, 2016, and the public are aware of some winners through social media accounts of some of those elated winners.

In a social media era, there are various platforms through which their followers could have been kept updated. There's Facebook Live, there's Twitter, there's Instagram, there's YouTube and there's live blogging on BON's official website.

A visit to BON's Facebook page and it is discovered that the last update on the page was in 2015; a movie trailer post. There is no official Twitter page, neither is there an Instagram account created and dedicated to the award platform.

There is an official website, but unfortunately, fans who have followed BON Awards for eight years would have to wait for days to find out which of their favourite actors emerged winners; that is if it ever gets uploaded.

An award shouldn't be all about having a Governor as a chief host, holding a nomination party, having a long red carpet that finds its way to the Guinness World Records or recognizing unique categories such as 'best kiss in a movie,' there should be more.

Credibility isn't always about nominating the 'right movies and actors.' Sometimes, credibility is owning a platform, being in charge, authenticity and setting a standard.

Over the years, everyone blames finance for poor delivery, but we don't think  finance has much to do with creation of a website, social media accounts and daily or monthly updates.

Negligible factors such as this is one of the reasons why most people consider some Nigerian awards a joke.
