Somalian Barkhad Abdi Wins First Award + See Full List Of Winners

Captain Philips actor has what it takes to get a reward in Great Britain.

Somali actor Barkhad Abdi makes a debut win at this year’s British Academy Film and Television Awards (BAFTA) taking home Best Supporting Actor for the film, Captain Philips. His remarkable big splash abroad seems so familiar with Kenyan beauty Lupita Nyong’O and her first major win at 2014 Critics Choice Award for Best Supporting Actress for 12 Years A Slave.

Receiving his awards at the Royal Opera House in London on February .6 from British actress Emma Thompson, Abdi the pirate told the audience,

"I want to thank BAFTA for this honour. I want to thank Paul Greengrass for believing in me before I believed in myself. I want to thank Tom Hanks, Sony Pictures, my producers and my family and my friends. I love you! Last but not least, I want to thank the other pirates in the film, my friends. We came from nothing and we get this! Thank you!"

Maybe his bow tie needed some adjustment to suit the huge win!
