Buhari, Obasanjo, Saraki, others attend Sultan's 10th anniversary [PHOTOS]

President Buhari said the Sultan of Sokoto has made invaluable contributions to the development of Nigeria.

Speaking at the event on Saturday, November 5, 2016, President Buhari said Sultan Abubakar has continually worked to promote peace and unity in Nigeria.

"The Sultan for the invaluable contributions he is making in the development of the Nigerian polity," President Buhari said.

"The Sultan has consistently proved himself worthy of his ancestors. He has continuously worked to promote peace and unity in the country. He has remained a leader, treading the path of his revered ancestors in building bridges of understanding amongst diverse ethnic and religious groups in the country," the President added.

Other dignitaries at the event include former president Olusegun Obasanjo, Senate president Bukola Saraki, Speaker Yakubu Dogara, Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto state, Rochas Okorocha of Imo state and Reverend Father Matthew Kukah.

Notable traditional rulers at the event were the Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II, Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi and the Alake of Egba Land, Oba Gbadebo.

Abubakar was appointed as the 20th Sultan of Sokoto Caliphate on November 20, 2006.
