We will give police maximum support to rid Plateau of crime -- Gov.Lalong

Plateau state government will give the Nigeria police the maximum support it needed to rid the state of crime, Gov. Simon Lalong, has said.

The governor gave the promise on Monday in Jos when Mr Mohammed Gana, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 4 paid him a courtesy call.

He said that since the police contributed in no small measure in the relative peace the state is currently enjoying, the government would continue to partner with them.

"Welcome to Plateau, the home of peace and tourism.

"We were not saying it loudly before now but today, with the glory of God and the efforts of the police and other security agencies, we can now confidently say that Plateau is a home of peace and tourism.

"I want you to convey our appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police for the additional mobilisation of police personnel to Plateau when we requested and when the President directed.

"We have not had any serious case as we are hearing from other states and we pray that the relative peace will remain with us,’’ he said.

Lolong said that one of the five policy thrusts of his administration was peace and security.

He said that government would continue to support the police in spite of its lean resources to ensure that the set goals were achieved.

In his remarks, the AIG reiterated his commitment to fight crime in the zone which comprised of Benue, Nasarawa and Plateau states.

"I am here purposely to fight crime and the Commissioner of Police, Plateau Command has told me the efforts you have been making to sustain the existing peace in the state,’’ he said.

He appealed to the governor to support the police with vehicles and other logistics to aid them to fight crime.
