The panel will complete its assignment today, according to a statement by Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo’s spokesman, Laolu Akande.

“The three-man Presidential Investigative Committee set up by President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, under the chairmanship of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, to inquire into the Discovery of Foreign and Local Currencies by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at Osbourne Towers, Ikoyi, Lagos and the Allegations of Due Process Violations in the Award of Contracts under the Presidential Initiative on the North East (PINE) is completing its assignment today and is scheduled to present its reports to the President on Monday, May 8, 2017,” the statement read.

The panel is also investigating allegations of corruption leveled against suspended Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal.

Lawal is alleged to have misused funds meant for the Presidential Initiative on the North East (PINE).

Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, who is a member of the panel, earlier told journalists in Abuja that the report would be submitted on Wednesday, May 3.

The money was found by agents of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Ikoyi on April 12 and was subsequently claimed by the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ayo Oke who said it was allocated to his agency for “covert purposes.”

The revelation led to Oke’s suspension and the constitution of the panel, which is headed by Osinbajo, to investigate the incident.

Meanwhile, the Senate has indicted Lawal of the charges and called for his prosecution by the relevant agencies.
