MEND succumbs to Avengers, accepts Edwin Clark's leadership

Clark and other leaders of the region disowned the Ijaw leaders, who on Thursday, met the Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr Ibe Kachikwu.

 

According to Vanguard, MEND also agreed to  dissolve its Aaron Team 2, headed by Odein Ajumogobia and work with Clark.

The Secretary of Aaron Team 2, Timipa Okponipere, was said to have conveyed the group's decision to the elder statesman‎ in Warri, Delta State.

The Niger Delta Avengers had chosen Clark to head a separate team that would negotiate with the government, but MEND threatened to pull out of the ongoing peace talks if the Federal government agrees to dialogue with the Clark-led team.

However, Clark and other leaders of the region disowned the Ijaw leaders, who on Thursday, met the Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr Ibe Kachikwu, without authorisation from other ethnic nationalities.

Clark denied knowledge of the leaders' visit to the Minister.
